I mean, I had the very basic 1994/1995 internet to try to do some searches, actually knew one or two answers. How does a sequel to such a beloved classic not get advertising? Or maybe it did but it definitely didn’t reach me. Sorry to hear! The 1993 sequel was only on PC — it didn’t get console ports. That might be part of the reason. The industry was changing fast, and between 1993-96 the attention of gamers shifted to real-time 3D in a big way.

It was the sound of being sliced in half by the chompers that always got me. Hated even hearing them clanging before I got there. I remember always having to sneak through them carefully. My brother always had to do the 3x chain on level 3 for the secret potion, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. When I came on board in 2002, I replaced the writer of that first draft, he moved to a different project, so we never actually got to work together on SoT. I kept a few elements I liked but basically started over. There was no Prince 44th Anniversary 1976-2020 Thank You For The Memories Signature Shirt, it’s normal for game narratives to go through many iterations, especially at that early stage. Sands of Time is one of my favorite games. It was so well-written, and weaving actual gameplay mechanics into the storytelling with the rewind feature and the “No wait, that’s not what happened…” aspect was brilliant. I also remember staring at the screen.
