I know Official I Eat Guys Like You For Breakfast Shirt Start Trek fans hate them, but me just as a movie fan that has never seen anything related TO star Trek besides this trilogy… I love it. Not even going to say I just like them. I genuinely love all three movies. Wished they made the 4th one. I stopped watching after the first season. As soon as you force a feature film story arc things to get worse. Star Wars is for the big dramatic adventure story arcs: moms betraying sons betraying dads and all that shit. The new series Picard gets this wrong as well. People forget that the 2009 film was such a huge deal! It was the first time that Star Trek was really mainstream. Outsiders loved it, die-hard fans loved it. They should’ve struck while the iron was hot but they didn’t.

Abrams went on to do Official I Eat Guys Like You For Breakfast Shirt Super 8 and the 4-year gap between the original Star Trek film and Into Darkness didn’t do them any favors, and that’s coming from someone who actually enjoyed all 3 films quite a bit, even Into Darkness. 2009 was a good reboot. People can scream “not my Trek!” All they want, but 2009 was a damn good reboot. It’s funny I used to think the idea that the Romulans failed to prepare for a supernova destroying their world (like this is something they probably should have been well aware of far in advance) was stupid, but in light of the US’ continuing pathetic response to COVID, it actually seems far more plausible now. But anyway, using prime Spock to create an alternate universe where they can recast the old crew and send them on new adventures was a great way to reignite the franchise.
