To add to the other reply you got, NADS is short for “North American Dream Squad” which the band put on some merch back around that time as well, so IDK maybe they just like the acronym, and/or found it humorous. That they could sell the Official Dream Theater 35 Year Of 1985-2020 Shirt with “NADS” on it and people would buy it. Oh, that’s weird. For me, it’s one of the DT albums I revisit the most (along with Scenes and Octavarium). The riffs are amazing and the soloing is insane on the album. The tracklist and flow are also really good. Portnoy is also on top of his game (see: Constant Motion bridge, pretty much the entirety of ITPOE).

This track in particular is just super fun to me with the circus piano breaks. I’m in the same camp. Heck, this was the album that initially got me into the band, but it’s not one that I’d listen to all the way through now; of the 8 tracks (7 if you count ItPoE1 & 2 as one track like the band originally intended), half of them are pretty weak compared to the Official Dream Theater 35 Year Of 1985-2020 Shirt. This one is one of them. Not to say this song is bad mind you, it’s just a little by-the-numbers – it simply “is” and nothing more. This was the third “New” DT album to come out for me as a fan, and it was the first album they had ever put out that I didn’t love.

In hindsight, this album is the very obvious pivot point from their “Classic” style to their “Modern” style, and it’s the last DT album that I regularly listen to any songs off of. In the Presence of Enemies is the Official Dream Theater 35 Year Of 1985-2020 Shirt here. Weird to compare an instrumental medley to a straight-up metal track with like one solo section. It might be too long for what it is, which is how I felt about half the tracks on Train of Thought. I not a big fan of the singing on this one. The crazy instrumental section in the middle is amazing, one of my favorites. And the outro is also amazing too, with the great riff in the background and Rudess doing some weird shit.
