My name is not even close to Regina. It was kind of too late to correct by the time I was sure he truly thought my name was Regina that I just adopted the name as my alter ego and it became a big joke with my friends. My friend had a similar alter ego scenario and she called that version of herself “Vegas Kelly”. Because Vegas Kelly was always up to a party or be outlandish. Regular Kelly (really name Katrina) wasn’t quite so daring. I had a teacher call me Rebecca all year when my name was Grace. She also “corrected” the Awesome Racism Is A Public Health Issue Shirt spelling of my last name so I learned to spell it wrong. I have a friend named “Trisha.” Just Trisha, not short for anything. But she had a teacher who was so insistent that her name was “Patricia” and determined to teach her to spell it that way.

Her mom had to come in with her birth certificate and demanded the principal deal with sometimes when people get just the littlest bit of power, it completely clouds their judgment on when to use that power. Like sure, you can try to teach someone a name that isn’t their own because you feel like it should be that way but using their best judgment would prevent them from wasting everybody’s time with that nonsense.
