I have almost the Zelda Majora’s The Face Under The Mask Is That Your True Face Shirt the same story. But I was in a PA-28. I was about 30 feet off the ground when I lost my headwind. I was able to get enough power in, but it was a hard landing. My CFI said I screamed a little bit, but I have no memory of that. Have a similar student story, although in reverse. Was getting my sport pilot’s license, was doing touch-and-go’s practicing landings and getting a comfortable flying solo. When I took off, there was precisely no wind. While I’m up flying around, enjoying the weather and feeling mildly competent, the wind starts to pick up out of nowhere…past the recommended speed to land the dinky little plane I was in. I radio in to my instructor and the school owner (Small airfield, no ATC).
