One of the best war movies ever made. It changed how action/fight scenes This Redhead Does Not Play Well With Stupid People Shirt. What a tragedy that it lost the best picture to a Shakespearean rom/com. UGH. I still cannot believe this was nominated for so many Academy Awards. he robot picked what it thought were the best actors, script. Blended them into a flavorless, humorless, pointless 140 minute waste of everyone’s time. It was billed as this Tarantino-esque crime movie. But all it delivered was a steaming turd on a silver platter delivered by a group of A list celebrities. There was nothing entertaining about it. The only color they used was grey. I went in to that movie expecting a movie with fantastic beasts.

Every single time there are actually beasts on the screen that’s when the movie was at its best… then fucking Credence god I just want to see how this weirdo captures and tames these “Fantastic Beasts” . For mainstream audiences, the title doesn’t help it, and neither did the film posters showcasing Tom Cruise over the title (though, to be fair, he was the biggest name and probably the main selling point to a worldwide audience). ‘The Last Samurai’ refers to Samurai as a group, not any single person. Same deal with Jedi and Sith, the name can be singular or plural depending on the situation. I vaguely remember some sort of controversy about The Last Samurai that still comes up now and then and you can usually tell when someone hasn’t watched the movie but wants to use it as an example of ‘White Savior in Film’.

The ending is much more nuanced, and it’s the natives saving the white man. Realizing that he really has no place with either his former people or the family which has adopted him. He only comes to the rescue once, and even that’s only because he gives the natives access to the rifles at his outpost. It definitely left an imprint, but it was one of technology rather than culture. Avatar did a lot of stuff behind the scenes that paved the way for future mo-cap productions on a scale of what LotR did before it. It is an absolutely important film for that reason. It paved the way for years and years of 3D movies to come – Again, I’m personally glad the trend is starting to fade as I didn’t enjoy spending an extra $5 to wear annoying glasses and see not so interesting 3D effects, but people seemed to really enjoy them for action movies.
