The story felt like a classic Trek romp and was “low stakes” in the way that it didn’t involve the destruction of Earth. The problem was that they barely marketed the movie. It was the 50th anniversary of Trek, but paramount barely had any marketing for the movie. I don’t even remember any trailers or billboards appearing until like maybe 2-3 weeks prior to release. It just fell flat. I loved the 2009 reboot. They did a great job with casting it and I especially enjoyed Pine’s performance. The scene after Vulcan’s destruction with “that must not even compute for you” was amazing.

Wow, am I the only one Official Rabbit If You Don’t Want A Sarcastic Answer Don’t Ask I Stupid Question Shirt who actually enjoyed these films? Granted I never watched the originals, but I found all three Paramount Star Trek’s really enjoyable. I never realized they were this widely hated. I guess I just didn’t want a reboot. There was already so much lore. I wanted something that took place after DS9/the Picard-led enterprise movies.  That’s because Star Trek was never a big-budget franchise. Before the 2009 movie, all the movies had moderate budgets and generally had moderate returns. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Trek’s core fanbase isn’t nearly as big as Star Wars, so I don’t understand why they tried to turn it into Star Wars.
