It didn’t go anywhere near as I expected, they almost died trying to break the wall, it was desperate and chaotic. The conflicts between RBA make it even more interesting. Not every chapter has to give us as much info as you’re requesting to be good. The fact that we got to know the extent of the Tyber’s knowledge and perhaps a tip of how the titans detect people (how Dina went straight to the Jaeger’s house) is just a plus. I get your point: nothing that we previously knew changed after this chapter. This is entirely true, I think.

Yet, I take this chapter as 100% fan-service, so I can’t really complain about it. But, why fan-service? I think that I’ve probably made 2 or 3 posts trying to better understand the (non)sense behind RBA initial operation, given the advanced military organization of Marley: starting an infiltration op with an Official Hogwart Symbol Shirt? Nothing of this adds up. Again, I agree with you, this does not move the plot forward. Bi’s dead and A is a crystal for ages. Yet I cannot but feel great about finally closing a gap in the story that bothered me for months.

My take on it is that this chapter had a role in establishing RBA motivation. Like when Reiner says that his motivation is to “save humanity”. So, in some kind of way, it’s like both Eren and Rainer want to save humanity but have totally different perspectives on how to do it. Actually Official Hogwart Symbol Shirt Armin just ate Bertholdt and has now gained all the memories of Bertholdt. It might change his perspective on Annie as well as some other things. Putting aside Armin’s own or surrogate feelings, I’m pretty confident Annie’s always had a crush on Armin. Sure it doesn’t look that way, but that’s because Annie is a sociopath and what she has displayed is probably as much as a sociopath ultimately can.
