But just as there are movies made for kids that adults can appreciate and enjoy too – Shrek comes to mind – the Hobbit is just as enthralling for adults as it is for children, and is all the better for it. Legolas being in it is like a short cameo when they’re in Mirkwood would have been fine, it even would have made sense since he was an Elven Prince who would have been living there at the time, but making him the main character.

I read The Hobbit twice and was so thrilled for the movies to come out. The first is the only movie to this day I’ve seen on opening night. I was so disappointed. It was way too animated and catered too much to younger kids in my opinion. I didn’t even bother with the second one. They just don’t feel like they are part of the LOTR universe that PJ perfected with the original trilogy of films. Desires in two and a half hours and nothing they don’t.
