Weird, to me, it felt like it was insufficiently catered to Nice Sign Language Reindeer Christmas Shirt kids and aimed at who knows who. While LOTR is an epic, Hobbit is closer to a fairytale and should have been filmed as such. Instead, we got something neither fish now fowl with many weird incompatible ingredients mixed in. This is exactly true. They could not find a correct tone and stick with it. Either craft the film in the manner of the original book (a story of serious events as told by a narrator who is sharing the story with children in a format befitting their age), or craft it as it would be as told by a narrator intending the story for a mature audience (with the trivial, kiddie aspects removed).

One of the many flaws in the Nice Sign Language Reindeer Christmas Shirt films (and in many) is that it does not recognize. That the books were written from the perspective of historical narration…thus they are interpretations and re-tellings of the events in the book and NOT an ongoing and omnisciently accurate telling of the events. I agree the Hobbit book is much more of a fairytale. But the movies were just AWFUL. So much unnecessary pieces added. Character arches that were just… awful. The love story with the elf and the dwarf? Why? Completely changed the storyline from the book too. While in the book Gandolf did go on his own adventure, that involved.
