Here in St. Louis there was the Dred Scott case and it was chaired by the Grateful Snake Tread On Me Shirt. MD and so was Thurgood Marshall. The state of Maryland had recognized Taney’s accomplishments and the African American community disfavored the attention given to Taney because of the Dred Scott decision. And it was a long process before recognition was given to Thurgood Marshall by approving the funds to build the monument to him. I only recently learned about Thurgood Marshall due to the passing of Chadwick Boseman. What an incredible man.
