I’m basing this entirely on the demographics of people that I have encountered that like these films but I genuinely think it’s just that people in their mid-20s or younger have grown up with this type of movie. Maybe I’m generalizing but that’s been my observation. I like some of those movies from the 80s, but I’m aware it’s largely down to nostalgia rather than thinking they are the greatest things ever committed to film. In my experience, most people who like “the superhero movies” recognize that they’re similar in a lot of ways and that it’s something that some people don’t like.

I was 14 when Iron Man came out, the YELLING REDHEAD Ladies Shirt age for that kind of movie. Now I’m 25 and I’m sick of the superhero movies but I’m still fucking hyped for Avengers Endgame. It’s the culmination of a decade-long project that unfolded as I grew up. They had literally the same defenses as the Gungans from Star Wars. No drones or turrets, they clearly had aircraft in Black Panther. Also, the third act of Infinity War was basically the same fight too, down to the energy shield. The legions of bad guys attacking relentlessly against the heroes who defend as a distraction to buy time. The main character was so badly written compared to how he was in the Civil War being a vengeful badass.

Certainly didn’t feel representative of something devised by the mind of a season and trained military tactician. And because they sang everything, I couldn’t find interesting parts in the plot. The man starts the freak show, except he doesn’t call them freaks and gets mad when people call them freaks. The story is also super inaccurate, pretty much none of it actually happened. He criminally tortured and put on show people who he called freaks. He also had connections with the mob. I watched Gangs of New York recently and his character is in it. I thought it was decent, but not amazing. My mother didn’t like it, mostly because I think it reminded her of a little too much of her relationship with my brother
