As soon as you force a feature film story arc things to get worse. Star Wars is for the big dramatic adventure story arcs: moms betraying sons betraying dads and all that shit. The new series Picard gets this wrong as well. People forget that the 2009 film was such a huge deal! It was the first time that Star Trek was really mainstream. Outsiders loved it, die-hard fans loved it. They should’ve struck while the iron was hot but they didn’t.

But anyway, using prime Spock to create an alternate universe where they can recast the old crew and send them on new adventures was a great way to reignite the franchise.
